A2 Coursework Decision

A2 Coursework

For my A2 coursework I have decided to choose to do the print option. This includes producing a local newspaper, front page and an inside first page, with supporting radio and billboard adverts.

My initial ideas at the moment upon looking over the task a few times are at the moment quite brief, however I have decided on the name 'Portishead Post.' This is because from my research, I have concluded that most local newspapers include something of there heritage in the name plate (Locational or relating). I have also used the technique of alliteration which I know will make the newspaper memorable as it is a phonologically pleasing name.

Front cover ideas

On the front cover will be the name of the newspaper in a large font, centre top, and in smaller font surrounding will be the price of the newspaper and an offer to get money off the next issue. I have decided the newspaper will be around 50p and the offer will be a strip at the top saying '20p off your next issue' - or similar. On the front page I will also include the main story about a break-in in a local opticians and the damage caused. I will also include my own photos of the shop window being broken and the shop front. Although from the knowledge I have gained from my research into tabloid newspapers, only part of the story is printed on the front and the rest of the story is inside, therefore i will have not much more than the headline and a large photograph on the front cover. I will also include a sneak peak at a smaller story on the front cover about a film review and a discount off seeing it at a local cinema - 'The new Ghostbusters film; A scary surprise or a dazed disaster?' This will go along with a small photo of the cinema front and a billboard.

First Page ideas

On the first page will be the continued headline story of the shop break-in and another photo. I will try and include another photo of the shop here. There will also be another story about a local boy saving a dog from drowning in the local pond, along with a photo. Something I have also found out in my research is that inside pages of newspapers usually have small adverts dotted around near to popular stories, so i have decided to include a car insurance advert on the first page also. This will include a company's number and their cartoon logo of a car, along with a form to fill in and small instructions.

I hope to achieve to produce my very own version of a local tabloid newspaper that could easily be put onto shelves. I hope to make the newspaper as realistic and as close to popular local newspaper names as possible, for example the Evening Post or the Bristol post. I will do this through research into types of newspaper and their conventions.
